Homework and Assessment Policy
The completion of homework enhances a child's chance of success & develops skills taught in class. Students should be set approximately 30 minutes of work on each day they have a mathematical class.
Parents are encouraged to get involved with their child's homework & monitor its completion. Students should mark their homework from the text book & report difficulties to their class teacher in the following lesson.
If a student consistently does not complete homework, a letter will be sent home to inform parents & hopefully rectify the problem.
From time to time, work will be set from the "Mathletics" program. This is to be completed at home as additional revision. As internet access is required, completion is not compulsory.
All students sit a stage 3 diagnostic test & are placed in classes based on this result. They will then follow a pathway that progresses their mathematical ability from the point of their current knowledge. Students in Year 7 & Year 8 sit for four assessment tasks during class time, this includes two single period assessments term 1 & term 3, & two double period assessments, term 2 & term 4.
These four tasks are used to build a picture of the students' mathematical development over the year in regard to the course strands & their progression through the stage 3 & 4 outcomes which are reported via the school reporting system.
Teachers will also present students with class tests & assignments on a needs basis to allow for student practice & teacher evaluation.
